A Future and a Hope
Fleta R. Robinson
Today is July 4, Independence Day, fireworks day! Patriotic songs and speeches are invigorating. Reminders of America's past victories arouse gratitude, and HOPE for the future. True – some things in America's Past were very wrong, i.e., slavery.
Many things about the Present appear mindless, i.e., a current fashion statement seems to be that navels are novel. Duh. Many things about the present are absolutely marvelous, i.e., communication technology.
Our privilege of heart-to-heart communication with God – Bible reading, prayer – is the most important of all in any age, Past, Present or Future. Isn't it a JOY to meet others who also love, honor, and live for our Heavenly Father!
The Future? Hopeful! God thinks about us – thoughts of peace . . .
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all of your heart." Jeremiah 29:11,12 NKJ
A future and a hope? Amen!
P.S. July 5 When I awakened today, the radio was on. Someone was thoughtfully singing:
"These are the plans, yes, these are the plans I have for you, saith the Lord, A future and a hope."
It made me smile. The ultimate future is with Christ Himself!
