Is Doing Wrong a Right?

Once again we, as a nation, have chosen who will lead this country. I am saddened by the results of the presidential election. I believe it is a strong statement about the morals and values of many people in this great nation. I am saddened that so many people (including many Christians) have chosen a man to lead this country who's record has proven that he does not stand for what is right; he has promoted much that is destructive.
I was encouraged with the way things turned out in the state of Kansas. I believe so many conservative races were won because people voted for what was right, not paying attention to all the rhetoric. Some local incumbents had stated they had taken Kansas Traditional Values to Topeka and would continue to do so if re-elected. Kansas Traditional Values are just words to them. Why do they use these words even though they practice the exact opposite? Because they know the majority of people still hold dear to the morals and traditions this country was founded on; "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Our current President, Supreme Court, and many of our Senators and Representatives, both federal and state, have completely twisted this wonderful statement from the Declaration of Independence. The word "liberty" has come to mean the liberty to do all things, right or wrong. But to have true liberty there must be discipline. There must be standards of right and wrong. We do not have the liberty to do what is wrong.
According to some, a woman should have the "liberty" to have her unborn child killed up to the day it is born in the most gruesome methods imaginable, including the partial birth abortion procedure. Men and women who call themselves doctors slaughter hundreds of children a day who could live outside the womb if just given the chance. But because the child is unwanted (at least by the mother) these people make their living by ripping these children to pieces. Many do not like to face this issue because the facts are horrible and disgusting. If one is truly willing to look at the facts of abortion you can only come to one conclusion; it is wrong! If you can look at all the facts and still believe abortion is a "women's right to choose" you are headed down a road that is frightening. We do not have the right to do what is wrong.
According to some, men and women should have the "liberty" to have their wrong behavior tolerated and accepted by society. Behavior that is savage, crude and barbarous is not civilized. Freedom, true freedom, follows the disciplines of life. Pornography and perverse art should not be accepted on the basis of freedom of expression. Homosexuality is not an acceptable alternative lifestyle. Homosexual marriages and homosexuals adopting children are not healthy for our children or our society. We do not have the liberty to do what is wrong.
According to some, our children should have the "liberty" to be able to express themselves fully
and have all experiences available to them. Thus many of our children are exposed to things
adults shouldn't be exposed to. Because of this "liberty" we have rampant teen pregnancy,
sexually transmitted diseases, gangs, date rape, drugs, alcohol, pornography and worst of all we
have broken, hurting and confused children who don't respect themselves, don't respect their
elders, don't respect our laws. What is so ironic is that those parents who try to shield their
children from bad environments and influences by private schools or home schooling are
shunned, ridiculed and called extremists. Neither we, nor our children, have the right to do
what is wrong.
God has been thrown out of our government and our schools. He has been thrown out of everything in our society except our personal lives (and some have even tried that!). Our society has deteriorated because of it. When we threw out God and the Ten Commandments, we threw out absolute right and wrong. We have become a society of if it feels good do it; where everyone does what is right in their own eyes with the blessing of society, whether it be abortion, euthanasia, infanticide, assisted suicide, alternative lifestyles, the list goes on and on. We have become a society that thinks doing wrong is a right.
When we as Christians apply our convictions to the issues of our day, we are hated, ridiculed, called extremists and people from the dark ages. How dare we try and impose our values on other people! How dare we say killing unborn children is wrong! How dare we say homosexuality is wrong and unhealthy! How dare we keep our kids uninformed by not telling them about condoms! How dare we tell people they don't have the right to do wrong things! How dare we hold to the Biblical principles this great country was founded on! How bigoted, intolerant, extremist, right-winged can we get! How archaic! Don't you know we've progressed since then? I don't think so.
I believe there is an ultimate moral standard. There is clearly right and wrong. As representatives of Jesus Christ we must continue to fight against what is wrong, despite the odds. We must continue sharing Christ's love, forgiveness and hope to those who are dangerously caught in sin. We must continue to stand up for righteousness sake because His holiness demands it. We must persevere because doing wrong is not a right!
"And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. 'And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.' But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil."
